  1. I you read my latest post you know I was there in 1989 for Loma Prieta. 1906 was 30 times worse they say and it was the fire, not the quake, that took the toll on lives.

    And Happy birthday! I’m so glad your survied your 1989 quake.

    The 1906 SAn Fransico quake was terrible but only a few hundred died, in the after math that follows with the broken pipes causing the fire department not to be able to put the fires out the devastation was total!

    The earliest estamations was 3,000+ lives were lost, but now we know that it was an purposful lie. The fat cats didn’t want there realistate values to go down. I don’t understant that part as the city was a total loss! But the estamation is now closer to 6,000+ souls lost.

  4. we were in Milpitas for Loma Prieta. Peter was driving along 237, and I thought he was just driving silly, swerving back and forth… but no.

    only a power outage for us there, a few things off the walls. very blessed we were, and so many others. I do think of how much worse it could have been…

    Hi Ipodmomma,

    That last quake could have been a lot worse than it was, we were lucky!

    Here in Madera we just feel a little earth shake, or a roll. And this one time the bird were all chirping really loudly, then silence, then the shake like some one was jumping on my bed, and the pictures on the walls flap around.

    Here in the house I live in now I get more cracks in my walls everytime we get a new earth quake.

  6. i guess that’s one advantage of living in the nearly far north. we’ve had 2 quakes in my lifetime, but never enough to damage anything. hanging lights sway a bit, and if you’re in the bathtub, the water sloshes a bit.

    In ’81 i was living in an apartment, in the city when we had a small quake one summer afternoon. out of the blue, my (single, and very handsome) neighbor across the hall appeared at my door dripping wet, wearing nothing but a towel. i thought i’d got lucky, but no, he’d been in the tub and the water slopped out on the floor. He ran over to tell me there’d been an earthquake.

    Well, I guess it’s a trade off we get earth quakes, but we don’t get hurricanes, or blizzards either.

    Heh, no you didn’t get lucky but you got good view of a barley dress nice piece of beef cake! That’s always in-teresting.
