Steve Irwin the "Crocodile Hunter" has died!



SYDNEY (Reuters) – Steve Irwin, the quirky Australian naturalist who won worldwide acclaim, has died in a marine accident off Australia’s northeast coast, local media reported on Monday.

Queensland state government sources quoted by Australian Associated Press (AAP) said Irwin, 44, whose television show “The Crocodile Hunter” won international acclaim and popularized the phrase “Crikey,” was believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest.

He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occurred, the report said.

Sky Television also reported that Irwin had been stung by a sting ray.

Australian emergency officials could not immediately confirm the reports.

Irwin won a global following for his daredevil antics but also triggered outrage in 2004 by holding his then one-month-old baby while feeding a snapping crocodile at his Australian zoo.

    It sure is a sad day in Australia more so in Queensland. Latest news was it was stringray barb in the chest.

  2. This was the first thing I heard this morning and have thought about his wife, daughter, and little boy all day…so sad to lose such a colorful person…

    very well known. So sad for his family.
    I have been absent, as when my brother changed me to Beta,they lost my blog and
    also another he set up. This 3rd one seems to work, so would you save it in Bookmarks or Favorites?

    I too have been thinking about his family, and his little boy is old enough to ask “where’s daddy?” But still too little to understand what happened. I pray to God to give his widow strength to get through this time.

    Ah, well, the 2:13am posting? You see my husband is working the graveyard shift at the local winery as the crush foreman, and since he is not here at night to snore in my ear I can’t sleep til the wee hours of the morning. So sometimes I blog, or read other peoples blogs, and leave comments, and shh! Don’t tell anyone this, but sometimes I troil through e-bay looking for bargains too.

    I been looking for your blog and had wondered what happened! Oh my goodness it sounds like you have had a rought time of it! I’ll look for your blog with the new address, and I’ll definitely save it to my favorites.

    The reason I know of Steve Irwin is because he had a cable channel, and I would watch it at one of my friends house when we were there. They thought Steve was a nut! And would watch to see if he would get bit yet again!

    I also saw his one and only movie that he and his wife where in, and I thought they both were the best thing in that movie.

    My condolences to Steve Irwin’s wife and two beautiful children. The world will be a dimmer place with out him.

  6. Yeah, it’s really sad. His daughter Bindi is a real cutie. For years years I had no time for him because I thought he was putting it on, but he eventually won me over with his obvious honesty.

    So your husband works at a winery eh? Chances are I’ve been to it if it’s near Napa. Co-incidentally, I live at the Northern tip of the Hunter Valley.

    I finally saw Steve’s daughter on a segment on enterment tonight, and your right she is really cute.

    What had impressed me with Steve Irwin was how he hard he worked, and how much enthusiasm he put into everything(like a big kid). And he was like this each and every time. I keep remembering him jumpimg off a boat to grab a croc bare handed, and that was just a day in the life!

    I’m sorry to disappoint you, but we are no where near Napa valley.

    We live in Madera, and that is half way between Merced where Ann lives, and Fresno. We are an agricultural community, and have grown grapes for rasins and wine(not so much now though), and figs, almonds (we live in the middle of a baby almond orchard), peaches(just down the road from us), and cotton amung other things.

    H-mm hunter valley I’m not really sure where that is? I’ll have to look it up.
