Halloween Blog Hop

If your looking for the Halloween blog hop post, then you have found it!

Hi, my name is Janice Seagraves. I write romance of various genres. Here’s my bio: Janice Seagraves grew up in a small California town. Her home is a hundred year old haunted house (I’m not kidding), where she lives with her husband and daughter, an overly affectionate cat and a Jack Russel that’s in love with her daughter (still not kidding).

A lot of people read my bio and ask me, “Is your house really haunted?”

Yes it is. Since my husband and I first moved into our house twenty years ago, I’ve heard a little girl crying when I washed my hands in the bathroom. Which in itself isn’t anything unusual, however we live two miles out of town in the middle of what had been a grape vineyard but is now an almond orchard, and we have no close neighbors. I’ve lived here for twenty years and heard the same child sobbing. Reason would dictate that if this was a child, it would be grown by now.

Once when my daughter was still a newborn baby, I was enjoying a few blessed moments of shared TV viewing with my husband (you never know how fleeting those moments are until your a new parent), and then my baby started to cry. I sighed and started to get up, when I heard a woman’s voice saying very clearly, “Hush, baby,” I ran into the bedroom, and my husband ran outside. When I turned on the light, the baby was asleep and no one was there. My husband came back inside and told me no one was outside.

While my daughter was a baby, she would sleep with us, and during this time I would feel the bed dip like someone was sitting down. Usually this meant that my hubby was putting on his boots for work. But other times, I’d open my eyes to see that I was alone. Over the years I, my husband and my daughter have seen a little girl ghost at different times and places in the house.

One time while my daughter was sleeping with me, she screamed in the middle of the night. I jerked awake and turned over, that’s when I saw the little girl ghost sitting on my bed on the far side of my daughter, staring at me. Then she faded away.

When my daughter was little about three or four, she had an invisible friend named Jenifer or Jenny, which I later realized was our ghost girl.

Once or twice I’ve heard a scary voice saying my name, and a chill would wash down my back.

Thank goodness I haven’t had that in a while. *shiver*

I’ve been woken up by the sound of my bedroom door being opened and when I looked to see who it was, the door was closed. That just happened the other night. I got up again to look and the door was closed.

Nope, no more sleep for me. We’ve seen orbs. Mostly green and blue ones. I saw one in the bathroom and followed it in my daughter’s room, where it landed on the foot of her bed and disappeared. I have taken a few orb photos with our black kitty we used to have, and I have an earlier photo with a white something that went through my husband’s mouth.

These photos were taken with two different cameras; the above photo is digital and the below one is a 35 mm. Ghost photoWhen my husband worked nights, sometimes I would see something under the fitted sheet moving back and forth. I thought maybe a mouse got into the mattress. My husband and I flipped the mattress over and I couldn’t find any mouse holes, so I have no idea what that was.

One morning, I was woken up by a child singing the song called the Lilac Tree. Both my husband and daughter were in the living room watching Saturday morning cartoons. And nothing they watched had a child singing. I’ve been woken up by the smell of Brownies and thought my daughter was baking. I got up to go into the kitchen and no one was cooking. Boy was I disappointed.

One time when I overslept, I heard someone walking around my bed and a voice saying, “Come on, honey, it’s time to get up.” When I got up, no one was there.

When one of my daughter’s friends spend she reported hearing the bathroom door creak open, and the sound of whispering. The friend asked my daughter if her parents were awake. My daughter said no, and then they both went and checked the bathroom. They found it empty.

My husband and I both have heard whispering voices before, right when we got home. We’d quickly unlock the front door to the house, flinging it open, but the noises stopped and no one was there.

A few months ago when I just laid down to go to sleep, I felt someone tuck in the tag on my pajama top. My bedroom door was closed and hubby was working the graveyard shift and my daughter was spending the night at a friend’s house.

I was alone.

Or was I?

  1. Sounds like you’ve embraced your girl ghost over the years and haven’t run screaming. We too had a ghost my kids named “Fred”. Non-violent, thank heavens, but did enough to let us know he was “there”. I researched our house/land and found out it was once farmland (what a surprise in the Midwest!). He:
    folded my daughter’s laundry
turned the knob on a TV (old TV with distinct click sound when knob turned but I didn’t hear anything)
    moved my phone book
scared the house sitter (college student) to the point that he wouldn’t come into the house by himself
    and other prankish things
I’m a believer…and hope never to encounter a violent ghost!

    • Hi Marianne,

I wish our ghost folded clothes, even if only my daughter’s laundry was being done it would be appreciated. 🙂 I’m glad our ghost isn’t violent either, that would be scary.

    • Hi Savannah,

I forgot to mention that I grew up across the street from a house someone was murdered in, so living in a haunted house isn’t so bad when you consider where I grew up.

  2. Well I’m a believer , though I’ve never has an experience, my sister and son have. My sister saw a little boy surrounded by lights sitting at the end of her bed and has had other sightings as well. My son and his cousin, saw a group of civil war soldiers crossing a field at night , believe me, if you ha d seen their faces when they told me, they didn’t make that up!
I keep hoping one day I will have that experience , though only a friendly ghost will do!

  3. I have encountered a “mean” ghost, which I don’t think was a ghost at all but a demon. I think ghost and demons are two different entities. He climbed into bed with me, spooned my body and tried to rape me. Suddenly a ghost or spirit, (which I think was my dad) wedged himself inbetween us trying to prevent this. When I tried to look back over my shoulder I saw what I believe was my guardian angel standing at the edge of the bed. He reached down clutched the demon by the back and swoosh, all of them disappeared. By this time I was screaming, which woke my daughter. She rushed into the room, pulled me from bed and we rushed to her room where she shut the door and I slept holding onto her arm for the rest of the night. My house has also been haunted, but after that I started prevention measures to cleanse and prevent any furture “hauntings” that has worked wonderfully well.

    • Hi Janell,

Oh, wow, you had a frightening experience. I hope your preventative measures help and your guardian spirit stay nearby.

I sometimes light a white candle or burn incense. It seems to help if our ghost are being more playful than usual.

  4. if that little girl is still there, you need to send her on to the Other Side. There are people waiting for her. (And as I write this, I got an intense cold chill up my back – I HATE it when they do that!) .

    • Hi Jacki,

How do you do that? I told her to go home but she seems to think she is home. I told her to go to the light and she’s still here.

She did stop crying though and I thought she had gone, but my daughter said she saw her a few weeks ago.

      • I’ve been doing that since I was a very small child (and I’m very much a grown-up now). When you talk to her next, tell her that her sister is waiting for her. That might do the trick.

        Jacki

        Thanks, Jacki, I’ll try that.

  5. The only thing I would say close to a ghostly experience was when a friend and I were playing with a Ouija Board , candles were trying to blow out and just odd things were happening that it just scared us so badly that we never touched it again.

  6. I don’t think I have any experiences like that, the place I live is too new to have any ghosts, and I’m too chicken to visit any hauted places:)

    • Hi Vallory,

Yup, I’m still here. I don’t sleep a lot at night when my husband is working the graveyard shift, but that’s okay, he likes coming in of a morning and snuggling up with me. 🙂

  7. My goodness, that’s creepy!

I haven’t had any ghostly experience (thank goodness, as I’m a coward!) My mom though has several. One evening, she and some friends were driving in a highway. The driver stopped because everyone saw a girl being pulled by two men, and the passengers thought that the car will hit them. When they stopped, they saw nothing.

The men and woman were wearing 70’s outfits, but this happened in the late 90’s.

    • Hi M.C.,

Oh wow, nope haven’t seen anything like that. From what I understand a traumatic event, like an attack, can leave a residue that some people can see. It’ll replay over and over like what your mom’s friend saw.

  8. Thanks for the goosebumps lol My experience was when I was a small child and was staying at my great uncle’s house so his daughter could babysit me while my parents were working. I was asleep in her room with her, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend were in their room, and my great aunt and great uncle were in their room. Soon everyone in the house was awake and after checking outside were met up in the living room. ‘Someone’ had been going around calling out my great uncle’s name. After standing there talking and trying to figure out what was going on, I walked out of the bedroom (no one had woke me up) and told them someone was at the window (right beside were I was sleeping and facing) and was asking me where my uncle was. That freaked everyone out and the men went to check outside again. After I described what the woman looked like my aunt and uncle realized I was describing my great grandmother who’s house they now lived in. I wasn’t scared and to this day it doesn’t bother me. I know she was just checking on him 🙂

  9. Hello Janice, I am happy to say that I have never had any experiences like yours. I think the closest I could come to it would be the time I lived in Germany about 15 or so years ago. I was outside with a neighbor and we were washing our cars, when I was run over by a full sized van and while the van was running over me, I saw 3 ghost like apparitions, but more angelic looking (they seemed to have wings), and they were telling me I needed to try to get out of the way, and that I would be okay, etc. Needless to I was okay! no broken bones, just bruised badly. These same “apparitions” also helped guide us to a friends home (I had forgotten the address at home 30 miles away). and I mean, right to our friends front door! There was no possible way that we could have found their place, we had never been to this town. Haven’t either before, or since we returned state side had this happen.
Thanks for being part of this awesome blog hop and for your giveaway
    Best wishes!
