What do you love about Halloween?
For me, I loved making my daughter’s costumes for Trick-or-treat. She’s been a bunny, cowgirl, Little Red Ridding Hood, fairy complete with wings, spider queen with a companion spider she’d walk on a pole, an angel with wings make with real feathers (I can’t take credit for that one) and a cat.
My daughter is grown now, but I still remember the festive feel to Halloween night, kids were (and still are) so excited to wear their costumes, and most people were friendly and nice. I’d walked my daughter along the road so she could knock on the doors. The scent of candle wax and pumpkin from the hand-carved jack-o-lanterns and the crisp fall leaves filled the air. We’d come home exhausted, and my daughter’s bag bursting at the seams. She was always a big hit when she trick-or-treated.

Blurb and excerpt from my published book: Matrix Crystal Hunters:
Team Alpha Three’s spaceship is out of power after fighting a wormhole, and parked on the primitive world of Zenevieva. With half the team sick from radiation poisoning, the team commander entrust geologist, Maya Gladstone, to find enough matrix crystals to power up their spacecraft, so they can go home to Earth. Vach Namaste of the powerful Clan Namaste, a native of the planet, has desired the lovely Maya since she stepped off the spaceship on that astonishing day a year ago. He’s hounded her every step since. As Hymeneal Night approaches, he makes plans to take her as his bride… willing or not.
“What’s wrong?”
“There’s a bow in the rock wall.” Vach backed up, causing Maya to withdraw. “I’m bigger than the last time I went through here, but that was several years ago when my cousin, Xeno, brought me.”
He handed her the flashlight.
“Is there another way?” She shone the light around, noting how the crevice narrowed overhead.
“Not that I know of.” He grunted, trying to remove his robe, but there wasn’t much room to maneuver.
“Here, let me help you.” Maya pulled the robe off his shoulder. “Surely the ancients didn’t come through here?” She jerked one sleeve down over his hand and then reached to get the other side too, but found herself wedged between the rock wall and his hard body. Fighting the impulse to feel his muscles, she managed to get his other sleeve down.
“If there’s another entrance, it must have been blocked a long time ago.” He started to pull his tunic off, but struggled, thanks to his big arms and the lack of room. “Can you help me with my shirt?”
As Vach lifted his arms over his head, Maya grabbed a handful of cloth so she could lift the material high over his shoulders. “What are you going to do? Strip down and lube yourself with my cooking oil?”
“No.” He chuckled, his voice muffled by the shirt. “But that’s a good idea.”
With his arms up, Maya got a whiff of his spicy, male scent. It always surprised her that the Zeemen didn’t stink after exertion as humans did. I wouldn’t mind rubbing his body down with oil. Warmth spiraled through her middle. She bit her lip. Keep your mind on business and not on being in a tight spot with a handsome Zeeman.
Vach stuck his clothes in the tote and then sidestepped through the narrow opening. Grunting as he pushed past the bow, he finally got through.
Maya approached the bend and realized it was about breast height on her. No wonder Vach had a problem, with his deep chest and heavily muscled back.
Contemplating the aperture, she stood on tiptoe but couldn’t get high enough. Finally, she squatted down but then found she needed to keep her knees bent out sideways. Oh no, not awkward at all.
She managed a few crab steps before she got stuck. Vach grabbed her arm to pull her the rest of the way through. Her hiking boots slid over the loose gravel, while her thighs took the strain. He helped her to stand, leaving his hands placed on her waist as she leaned against the wall, panting. “I don’t know how we’re going to manage that going back.”
“At least we know it’s there.” His breath puffed against her face. It smelled of mint.
He must have used my toothpaste. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
With an electric jolt, Maya realized her shirt had risen up and Vach’s hands were resting on her bare skin. She became hyperaware of his scent, his closeness and the fact that he wore no shirt.
Moving even closer toward her in the confined space, he whispered in her ear. “I like the smell of your hair.”
His hand slid further under her shirt, gliding over her ribs.
Heat went through her as she rested her hand on his shoulder. “It’s my shampoo.”
“It’s nice.”
“You can borrow it sometime.”

Cowboy and the Cowboy Hat
Cowboy and the cowboy hats
By Janice Seagraves
For those of you writing cowboy romance stories, don’t forget the cowboy hat. Whether it’s a Stetson, Indiana Jones, Sheplers, or Henschel, made out of straw or felt, a cowboy isn’t a cowboy without his hat.
Cowboy hats help the cowboy to dress up or dress down, and are occasionally tucked up under a form fitted plastic cover for those rainy days.
Have you ever seen how a cowboy use his hat to show emotion?
- Flinging down his hat can show anger or a desire to start a fight or finish one.
- Shoving the hat to the back of his head can show surprise. In this way you can see more of his face and his raised eyebrows.
- Lowering the brim over his eyes can show annoyance.
- Leaning back and hiding his face with his hat, he can show embarrassment, disassociation with what’s being said or a desire to take a nap.
- Removing the hat, he can lean in for a kiss.

How I Write.
I’m a notorious head writer and have been known to stop dead in the grocery aisle forcing people to mutter under their breath and move around me as I have various “a ha” moments during the first part of my process.
I typically do not make written outlines, but as I work my way through this longer series I am doing a fair bit of character mapping with timelines as I do some back and forth between books. And by the time I hit the last book it will be the story of all the main characters’ children so I gotta make sure I remember who belongs to whom and how old they should be.
Once I can’t keep the story stuffed inside my brain pain I take a seat, open the Mac Book Air (one of my quirks. I simply canNOT compose on the main Mac house computer. I think it’s a function of needing to write where I am when I’m in full-on compose mode) and have at it. And at it. And at it…typically until the whole thing is done. Housework goes begging, children eat a lot of cereal and Whole Food food bar for dinner, dogs start to whine anticipating the lack of walk they know they will get. As an example, I wrote Essence of Time, the 4th book of the Stewart Realty series between April 1 and May 10, ended with about 85,000 words then added about 20k more in a few days more after getting it back from editors who said “this needs more here…and here.”
Not all my books come that easily mind you. And I subscribe to the Hemmingway school of “Your first draft is always shit” so I’m never averse to revision, rewriting or anything suggested by my kick ass editing team.
If research is required I typically do it alongside the writing as it’s hard for me to be motivated to research if I don’t have a specific project or question to answer right in front of me. Of course, since every time I say “never” I end up doing that thing—and am in the process of doing research into soccer clubs as a business as I prepare the extension of the Stewart Realty series—the Black Jack Gentlemen will tell the tale of the expansion soccer league and team that Jack Gordon develops for Detroit. The stories will focus on individual players and the coach and will run the gamut from m/m, m/f, with a dose of “second chance” for one married player, to a dose of femme dom as the BJ’s (as they laughingly call themselves) are gonna break a serious traditional mold and hire a woman as an assistant coach—a successful former team USA player, divorced who discovers her inner domme when confronted with a young player who is floundering at the club.
In the meantime, I’m pleased to announce that Conditional Offer: Stewart Realty book 5 is now available! It’s an in-between novella (about 45,000 words) that tells the tale of Craig Robinson, one of the men smitten with Sara in the first 3 books but who has quite a history of his own…and how he finally find happiness with a damaged woman. Two people who more deserved an HEA never existed I tell you and I was so happy to give to them!
Cheers
Liz
Conditional Offer: Stewart Realty Book 5
Craig Robinson and Suzanne Baxter had no reason to meet, no real excuse to be friends. But when heart calls to heart…blood to blood…should two people who seem destined to be together heed the spin of Fate’s wheel?
Craig spent years floating through life on cruise control, using directionless jobs, his rock band, swimming, and a string of older women in his bed to smother feelings of loneliness and loss. He finally thought he had found his true love in one Sara Thornton — A sexy, beautiful, fellow real estate agent and mentor. But his self-doubt and innate sense of failure is only reinforced when he realizes her heart belongs to another man.
When Sara introduces him to Suzanne, a woman fighting her own demons from an abusive marriage and subsequent feelings of inadequacy and deep unhappiness, that chance moment snaps Craig’s hazy existence into crystal clear focus. A bond born of instant physical attraction is nurtured by time and shared experience, and plenty of erotic energy.
As Suzanne’s past continues to haunt her, making her push Craig away just as he thinks he’s getting closer, each of them must come to terms with their true selves and face their ultimate realities.
